Our 14 days tour visits all of the best photographing locations and this wonderful trip gives you good amount of time at each stop including days of photography in Western Mongolia. Along this trip you have an opportunity to discover all beauties in a very peaceful way. You will constantly meet local people of different Mongolian ethnic groups, which are as different as you go further to the west. This is a very rewarding trip in a part of Mongolia rarely visited by foreigners yet.

Altai Tavan Bogd National Park is an impressive natural reserve and is famous for its 5 highest peaks and largest Potanin glacier, lying on more than 4,000m above the sea level, the highest and westernmost region of Mongolia. The park has not only natural wonders but also it has cultural and historical wonders including thousands of ancient rock carvings, listed on UNESCO World Heritage Site, mysterious stone men and burial mounds and uncommon nomadic cultures of Kazakh and Tuva people. There are also beautiful hidden lakes Khoton and Khurgan, worshipped Shiveet Khairkhan Mountain, crystal clear rivers and rare wildlife. This NP is one of the highlights and photogenic places in Western Mongolia.

Day 1

 Arrive in Ulaanbaatar. Meet your local guide and driver and transfer to central located hotel. City tour with National History Museum and Gandan Monastery, center of Mongolian Buddhism. Overnight in hotel.

Day 2

Flight to Ulaangom, Brief tour in the city. Uvs province-a chain of lakes, wetlands, sand dunes and high mountains.

Day 3

Drive to Gashuun valley which is wonderful panoramic landscape of ice-capped Turgen mountains. Visit to Stone memorials of ancient periods. Photography day of wonderful nature and historical sites. Tented camp at the bank of the Turgen river.

Day 4

Drive to Achit lake, – the largest lake in Uvs province, located on the border of three western aimags. It offers stunning sunsets and sunrises and plenty of fish. The lake is home to flocks of geese, eagles and other bird life. In the afternoon drive to Kharkhiraa valley – delightful valley, surrounded by dense pine forests, has crystal clear river and carpeted with flowers. It is a perfect place to stay and photograph, while and relax, or to go hiking and taking beautiful photos. On the way we will stop at “Island of Devel”, is home of kinds of rare birds.

Day 5

Drive to Ulgii city, Bayan-Ulgii province. Unlike to other provinces its population is dominated by Turkic Kazakhs, which have their own language, customs and Muslim religion. Overnight in local hotel. Visit to local museum, black market and theater. Photography day of another culture and tradition than main Mongols.

Day 6

We are entering Altai high mountain area and arrive at Shiveet Khairkhan mountain- the closest place to the Altai peaks reachable by the car. We are travelling at the altitude of 2500-3000 m. In this huge mountain, there is the highest point of Mongolia, 4374m above sea level. Stay at tented camp at Tsagaan Gol. Prepare horse and camel for next day.

Day 7

Leave our vehicle and load our luggage to the horses and trek toward the Altai tavan Bogd mountain. Riding horse or camel to tavan Bogd Mountain (12km). This is the main focus of the trip. Photography day of the biggest ice-caped mountain range.

Day 8

Riding back to the van and after lunch drive to Khurgan lake, the lowest point of Altai Tavan Bogd National park.

Day 9

Full photography day at Khurgan and Khoton lakes and surrounding area. The system of these lakes, connected by a wide channel, is the source of the Hovd River which drains the whole Mongolian Altai. Khoton Lake is located in an intermountain tectonic depression in the northern portion of the Mongolian Altai.

Day 10

Drive to Buyant sum. On the way stop at Tsengel sum and Valley of Jivertei. Here we can make photos of ancient man stones that belonged to Turkic empire, existed 5th to 7th centuries.

Day 11

Come close to magnificent Tsambagarav mountain (4193m) via Tolbo lake. Enjoy with the natural beauty and meeting with local people. Stay in local eagle hunting family. Photography day of hunting eagle show and nomad life. Owners train eagles such as they chase fox skins dragged by their owners on horseback, collect marmots, small foxes and wolves and return to the ger, where the Kazakhs use them for food.

Day 12

Drive to Khovd city, the capital of the aimag, as well as the major industrial center western Mongolia. Brief city tour. Local Museum – geology exhibit, collections of stuffed wildlife, including an ibex with its distinctive corrugated antlers, ethnic costumes and artifacts, and a snow leopard pelt tacked up on the wall. One of the most interesting exhibits are the re-creation of the cave paintings at Tsenkheriin agui /Tsenkheryn cave/.

Day 13

Flight to Ulaanbaatar. City tour and evening cultural performance. Overnight in hotel.

Day 14

Transfer to the airport and departure.
